British Pathé newsreel footage show a great couple of female wrestlers from 1905 contrasted with “modern” girl wrestlers.
Stage set with painted backdrop. Man in black suit walks into the centre of the stage and two women join him. They wear leotards, tights and flat shoes. They bow and take off their capes. They shake hands and some comedy wrestling ensues. They are pretty rough. One throws another over her head. They fight it out, doing some spectacular throws and tumbles.
They look a bit more serious in their wrestling than the 1905 ladies. “But, when all’s said and done, it was the woman of ’05 who started the ball rolling!” They end their bout with a bow.
