This image is one of a pair of stereoscopic photographs produced by the London Stereoscopic Company. Viewed with its other half through a stereoscope, the image would have appeared three dimensional and very lifelike. The stereo card craze swept across Europe and the US from the mid 1850s to the early 1900s
