Thomas Smythe (1825–1906) was a British landscape and genre painter known for his charming depictions of rural life in Suffolk and the English countryside.
Born in Ipswich, Smythe was the younger brother of fellow artist Edward Robert Smythe and spent much of his career capturing bucolic scenes, farm animals, cottages, and everyday country activities. His carefully detailed paintings, often executed with a smooth, enamel-like finish, reflect a deep affection for traditional rural England.
Smythe exhibited with the Society of British Artists and was an active member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club, leaving behind a body of work that continues to appeal for its gentle nostalgia and craftsmanship.
