In 2010, Alcala was sentenced to death in the state of California for the murders of five women from 1977 to 1979. In 2013, he was given an additional life sentence for the murders of two women in New York before 1977. Although convicted of seven murders, police believe Alcala’s actual victim count is much higher.
Alcala was nicknamed the “Dating Game Killer” for his 1978 appearance on the television game show, “The Dating Game.”
After his arrest and conviction, police discovered a collection of over 1,000 photos taken by Alcala that were kept in a storage unit he rented. The New York City Police Department and the Huntington Beach, California Police Department released 120 of the photos in the hope the public could identify the women and children in the photos and to determine if these could be additional victims.
