Lupe Vélez (1908–1944), born María Guadalupe Villalobos Vélez in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, was a vibrant and fiery actress known as “The Mexican Spitfire.” She rose to fame in Hollywood during the late 1920s and 1930s, first gaining attention opposite Douglas Fairbanks in The Gaucho (1927).
