Studio 54 was a New York’s exclusive nightclub opened in 1977. Launched at the peak of the disco dancing trend, the club quickly attracted attention. The place to be during the swinging seventies, Studio 54 was particularly well-known for its celebrity clientele and restrictive entry policies. Its heyday, however, came to an end in December 1979, 33 months after opening, as the founders were convicted for evading taxes and the club was forced to shut down for the first time.
