Marilyn Monroe was filming River of No Return in Banff, Alberta, Canada that month and Look magazine sent John Vachon out to photograph her for a spread. Though many of his photographs didn’t make it into the issue, he got a handful of incredible shots, including these with her and Joe DiMaggio.
Professional shots of the couple are incredibly rare, as many of us know, Joe was very, very private about his life.
Vachon was happily surprised and honored when a relaxed Joe posed for shots with Marilyn, the love of his life. These shots beautifully express their passion, with their little flirtation, and their friendship-one that lasted a decade.
