Born in Wilmington, OH, Karl Moon (1878-1948) apprenticed in a photography studio, then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and opened his own studio. Moon made many pictorial studies of Indians in the region, one of them was Loti-kee-yah-tede, the Chief’s daughter of the Luguna Pueblo tribe in New Mexico.

These portraits of Loti-kee-yah-tede were taken by Carl Moon in about 1905. She was photographed wearing Ka-waik clothing with a belt and beaded necklaces.
