Amazing Posters Designed by Marcelin Auzolle in the Early 20th Century

Born 1862 in Paris, French painter and poster designer Marcelin Auzolle exhibited a painted portrait at the Salon of French Artists in 1887. He is said to be a student of Eugène Quignolot (1847-1918), undoubtedly during his rather famous evening classes.

Auzolle is mainly known for nearly fifty posters designed between 1890 and the 1930s. His Cinématographe Lumière poster (1896) appears to be the first of its kind for a film shown in theaters.
Auzolle married Jeanne-Henriette L’Hermitte, with a daughter named Marcelle, who married lawyer Roger Billard in July 1925. He died in 1942 at his Parisian home, at 29 rue des Vinaigriers.
