Born 1946 in Avignon, French singer Mireille Mathieu began her career by participating in an annual singing contest in Avignon called On Chante dans mon Quartier (We sing in my neighborhood) in 1962.

Mireille spent all of 1966 and 1967 touring. By 1968, She was France’s most popular singer. While on tour in February 1968, she was in a car accident in which she fractured one of her vertebrae; the injury sidelined her for three months.

Mireille has recorded over 1200 songs in eleven languages, with more than 150 million albums sold worldwide. She has never been married and has no children. Unlike other celebrities, she does not have a publicist, or feel the need to expand on her private life.
