Sugar Ray Robinson (born Walker Smith Jr.) was an American professional boxer whose career in the ring spanning from 1940 to 1965. Widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

From 1946 to 1951, Robinson held the world welterweight title, and in that latter year he won the world middleweight, which would be regained by him in 1955, two-and-a-half years later after he announced his retirement from the ring in 1952. Robinson was named Fighter of the Year twice: first in 1942 and later in 1951.
