Prince wrote his 1979 hit “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “I Feel For You” for and about his crush jazz pianist and R&B singer Patrice Rushen.
Rushen is known for her 1982 single, “Forget Me Nots” rejected both songs. Chaka Khan’s cover of “I Feel for You” became a hit in 1984. Prince, as songwriter, won the 1985 Grammy Award for Best R&B Song.
These beautiful pics of Patrice Rushen were taken by photographer Bobby Holland for her album cover “Straight from the Heart” in 1982.
