Eleanor Powell (1912–1982) was an American dancer and actress celebrated as one of the greatest tap dancers of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Known for her powerful, athletic style and extraordinary precision, Powell starred in a series of MGM musicals during the 1930s and early ’40s, including Born to Dance (1936), Broadway Melody of 1938, Rosalie (1937), and Broadway Melody of 1940, in which she famously danced alongside Fred Astaire.
